Listener Poll:
How do you feel about a Pastor's wife being a successful business woman with a career outside her husband's full-time calling?E-mail us at whatido@crossroads.ca
Listener Poll Results:
My opinion is I think it is fantastic to have a Christian in such a forum!!!!! GO GIRL!!! Anything less would be an old fashioned view of what a Pastor's wife should do or be. We are living in 2010 era now.Thank you
Kelly
I believe the essence of doing is being true to that to which God has called each of us. Being a pastors wife is not an automatic assurance of equal calling or yoking of spiritual gifts. Brigitte Foisy would appear to be true to that to which Christ has enabled her....it would appear that she and her husband are at peace with the differences and, so should we.
blessings,
Arlene
Thanks for featuring a Christian woman in the fashion business on Whatido. When I heard Brigitte Foisy was working in fashion, I got excited, that's something I'm interested in and something that Christians, in my opinion, don't consider a serious business.
I'm not sure what to say about Brigitte Foisy having her own identity as a successful business woman married to a pastor. What I've been seeing all along are pastor's wives supporting their husbands by being by their side when working for the Lord, whether silent in church or teaching the word of God or in charge of another ministry. My pastor's wife is a nurse, but I see her first as the pastor's wife, then a missionary, then a nurse. Being a pastor's wife is a position that God has placed those chosen women in and one to be held with high regard.
Apparently Brigitte Foisy's husband is a very modern man who doesn't mind his wife holding the position of CEO of her own company, and for that I applaud him. He's not intimidated by her success. Wow! If a pastor is comfortable with his wife doing her own thing, as long as she supports him in his full-time calling, then I guess I'm all for it.

I just wanted to respond to your question on what I think about a Pastor having a successful wife.
And I immediately thought what God had said that His plans for us are to prosper us and not to harm us. As long as the couple is solid in their faith- (though this is a perfect opportunity for the enemy to enter- )I believe that if the wife involves herself more on the ministry and not make up excuses using her other job to not spend time with her husband and give him moral support, and as long as they have a family tradition that they will do and follow- through no matter what the her job calls for, then God's love will be upon them. The wife should say that she is working in order to support the family because this will hurt the husband's feelings. I believe that the Pastor should also understand that the wife is a talented and intelligent woman and should not be intimidated by her. I also know that it is a huge load on both to share responsibilities if they have kids, but they should not use their work to forget the most important things- love, patience and understanding. Remember the time when they first got together and none of these things are still an issue. And that God sends struggles to strengthen the marriage and not to destroy it.
Thanks,
Maria
I grew up used to having the Pastor's wife at home and supporting her husband in that way but in my adult life have seen many out in the work force now.
In one way who are we to say that they should stay home when so many women in the church have careers. On the other hand it would be nice to see them staying at home and promoting family life to the nth degree. I have always viewed children as a career. But this day and age make it difficult to do so.

I found your topic very interesting, today. I believe that it is absolutely crucial that a pastor's wife/husband work outside the home- IF S/HE WANTS TO. As I'm sure you know, Marshall McLuhan said it best..."the medium is the message," and therefore, in order to reach the congregation, the person speaking must have representation with the people s/he is trying to reach and communicate with. Specifically speaking of the women in the congregation, I'm sure at least half, work outside the home, in many jobs and in meaningful positions too, positions such as teacher, doctor, nurse, police officer. These positions help the community, not just the individual family of the job holder. So, as a person who is speaking God's word, it must be lived and not just spoken, the life of the pastor should represent the life lived in the full context of society, and not just a life lived in the platonic sense....lived as an absolute and iconic life...this would not be believed by the congregation, and more importantly, would remove the congregation's interest and connection with the pastor, thus severing the important function of communication in the spreading of God's word. It is absolutely no coincidence that Jesus walked with fishermen and then asked them to follow Him, and that He was despised and of low countenance---how many of us average people in the world feel just that, not accepted and not beautiful--he became Us...to lift us up to Him and God, and that-- he ate with the average person, and so he immersed himself in the people he wanted to communicate with---His representation was HUGE and successful, and in the act of washing his disciples' feet--he showed great love and showed he expected them, and us to follow suit, and serve our fellow man...this can only be done by being representative of those you serve...he was/is one of us...he walked with us in humility and love in order to lift us up to His, and our Father....God. So, I guess, yes, I believe it is absolutely necessary that a Pastor's wife/husband be all s/he can be....whatever choice that may be...to work outside the home, or not. To stay at home with the children, and show love and community support in that very important way is still a priceless and valuable position---hey, after all it is Mother's Day this Sunday. Hope you have the arms of God around you with big hugs today, and pass it on:)
Take Care,
Alicia

Listener Poll Question:
Interesting fact but, despite the importance of camouflage therapy and its use by doctors, it's not covered by OHIP. So we want to know ... do you think it should be? Should adults and children, who need it to conceal their scars and take control of their lives, have this service paid for by the government?

Viewer Comments:
"No, I don't think there should be a fee attached to prayer. A good will donation at the most. "
- Allan
"No, I do not think that businesses should pay for prayer, but it would be very nice to have intercessors, who are very interested in you and your business to pray for your business to succeed. "
- Alex and Nettie
"No I do not agree that businesses should pay for prayer. Prayer is sacred!! We need to prayer and agree for one another. I've been inspired today to join together with other Christian businesses in prayer and agreement. Especially in today's economy we need each other and we need God to move in our midst!!"

Do you believe having prayer in public schools affects student behavior?
Poll Results:
100 % said yes!
Viewer Comments:
"I believe prayer should be allowed in public schools, if this means giving all different faith groups time to meet then they should all be given some time each week to gather together. "
- Reg
"I am absolutely amazed with Ted Kocznur's story. That proves that when God is "invited", through prayer, miracles happen! Lives change for the better ... Mr. Kocznur and the story of Sir Allan McNab Secondary School should be featured on the secular news stations. Maybe the principals and teachers of other public schools will get the hint."

Listener Poll Question:
We’d like to know what you think. Can a Husband and Wife be successful in Business together?
Poll Results:
100% said yes, a Husband and Wife can be successful in business together
Viewer Comments:
I believe as it was written in Genesis 2:18, The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." To put God first is a must, and then come family, which in matrimony for a married man is his wife. What best helper/partner could a man have in someone he can TRUST and LOVE with all is heart. I believe for some there is a calling to join forces in the workplace for Husband and Wife.
- Jacques
I think it's very admirable that John Horwood gave up his good job to be an assistant to his wife... Actually, I'm very surprised that he did this. Very few men would. That's God in action.
